Baguia Computer Program
A computer program was established by Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund and it has been received very well in the community. Using donated laptops, students and adults from the area come to the Computer Centre in Baguia for regular classes, with some walking for hours to get there.
Local teachers have been trained to run courses teaching computer skills to the range of students. One young man has started an IT maintenance business to assist with the program and other small businesses in the region. He has now started to employ other young people and has a very promising future. Other locals who learned computer skills at the Computer Centre now work for NGOs and sustainable farming companies in the area.
The Computer Centre was identified as needing sustainable, consistent and long term energy supply so a submission was made to Alternative Technology Association. The proposal was approved, resulting in a team of their staff volunteering to erect solar panels on the roof and train up local young people to complete parts of the system.
Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund are very grateful for charity group, Friends of Baguia, for their support with the project with one of their local volunteers helping with operations during the first few stages.
