Baguia Orphanage
Over several years, Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund has assisted Baguia Orphanage with maintenance of the rooms, building of new storage space, erecting of a security fence and the resurfacing of the courtyard. Due to advice from engineers, a plan to build a second storey on the existing building was cancelled. Through the generosity of a donor and a foundation, Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund was able to work with the local government and parish to facilitate the construction of a brand new building to house 50 unattached/orphaned children from Baguia and surrounding villages. Construction started in 2011 and by 2012 the new building was officialy opened.
In the new building there are toilets, showers, washing and sleeping facilities as well as an after hours private study room. The orphanage has been hooked up to a water supply which saves the children a walk in the wet season to access water. As well as the new orphanage, a small building was also built to house volunteers and guests of the centre. While the new building has been received well by the community, the old orphanage building has been converted to a primary school, further developing the education services available in Baguia township.
