YOTSORF - East Timor
After gaining independence in 2002, Timor Leste faced numerous challenges, including high youth malnutrition rates and widespread poverty. Baguia, a remote village, serves as a hub for surrounding areas but struggles with long distances and limited resources. Many students walk up to five hours to attend school, further hindered by the need to gather water and food. Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund, through various programs, is committed to supporting the young people of Baguia to improve their future prospects.

Dili Youth Services
Launched in 2017, Dili Youth Service aims to bring Australian expertise to East Timor's capital, focusing on empowering marginalized youth. Through outreach services and a youth center, the program supports local young people in making positive life choices. The goal is to become a key youth-focused agency in Dili, with local staff leading community engagement through meaningful programs in partnership with other organizations.
02
Baguia Food Program
For over 10 years, a food program has provided monthly funds to Baguia Orphanage for purchasing fresh food, including fruits, vegetables, and meat. In times of food shortages, emergency supplies have also been sent. There is a continuing high demand for additional support to meet the needs of the children at the orphanage.

Baguia Computer Program
Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund established a successful computer program in Baguia, offering classes to local students and adults. Using donated laptops, local teachers were trained to teach computer skills, and one young man started an IT business, employing others. To ensure long-term success, the center received solar panels through the Alternative Technology Association, which also trained local youth. The project was supported by Friends of Baguia, with volunteers assisting during the early stages. The program has created opportunities for local employment and improved skills in the community.

Baguia Orphanage
Over the years, Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund has supported Baguia Orphanage with various improvements, including room maintenance, new storage space, a security fence, and resurfacing the courtyard. After advice from engineers, plans to add a second storey were abandoned. Thanks to generous donations, the Fund worked with local government and parish to build a new facility for 50 orphaned children. Construction began in 2011, and the new building was officially opened in 2012, providing much-needed housing for children from Baguia and nearby villages.
