St Johns Orphanage, Iringa
St Johns Orphanage Centre was established as a reposnse to the significant amount of unattached children in the Iringa region of Tanzania. The orphanage is run by the Mwilafi family and has local volunteers helping to care for the children and helping with the cooking needs. The children who are of school age all attend the local primary school, Ipologo Primary School.
Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund has supported St Johns Orphanage in the construction of a library/study area for the children to assist with their after school study needs. Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund has also assisted in developing the food storage area and the kitchen and cooking area. Funds are provided to pay for the children’s school fees and also for school uniforms, books, pencils and school bags.
Because of its small size, St Johns Orphanage operates like a large family and the children are happy and well looked after.
