YOTSORF - Tanzania

Since 2006, Youth Off The Streets Overseas Relief Fund, in partnership with Tanzania's OSDO, has worked to improve education in Tanzania, where secondary school attendance is only 7%. This led to the construction of St. James Kilolo Secondary School in 2007, aimed at providing education to orphans and children in remote areas. Beyond education, the Fund supports St. Johns Orphanage and assists Migoli Hospital with capital works, focusing on HIV and malaria treatment in local villages. These efforts continue to break the cycle of poverty and provide vital services.

NEEMA Housing Project

In 2016, the Overseas Relief Fund partnered with Neema Crafts to support marginalized individuals by building homes for staff and their communities. With backing from EG and Australian Paralympian Adam Kellerman, who shared his inspiring journey of overcoming cancer and adversity, the project aimed to break societal stereotypes and provide sustainable housing. The collaboration continues to improve lives in Tanzania, offering low-cost housing for resilient individuals, while empowering local communities.

St James Secondary School, Iringa

St James Secondary School currently educates 305 local students and orphans from Form I-IV, with plans to expand to Form V in 2016 and complete Advanced Level accreditation by 2017. The school houses up to 400 students, providing boarding and care from teachers and staff. All staff are local Tanzanians, and the school aims to enhance educational opportunities in the region alongside other high schools.

Migoli Hospital

The remote Migoli region in Tanzania, home to many Maasai families, lacks access to healthcare. The Sisters of Migoli Parish run the local hospital, which treats a high number of malaria cases, particularly in an area where malaria is widespread. The treatment costs around $17 AUD, unaffordable for many locals, and the hospital estimates that around three people die each week after reaching the health center, with a higher death toll for those unable to get there.

St Johns Orphanage, Iringa

St Johns Orphanage Centre was established to support unattached children in the Iringa region. Managed by the Mwilafi family, it relies on local volunteers to care for the children and assist with cooking. School-aged children attend the nearby Ipologo Primary School.
